Previously, we talked about YouTube Studio’s Dashboard, which is an overview of your channel’s performance. Now, let’s talk about the Analytics tab in the YouTube studio. Understanding YouTube Studio performance analytics can help you grow your channel in the right direction in Cape Town. In this article, we will see the different statistics YouTube Studio Analytics has to offer.
Visualise your Channel Performance in Cape Town with YouTube Studio Analytics
And it is really simple, too! YouTube Studio Analytics categorises and displays analytical information regarding your channel and content’s performance in a very user-friendly manner. Even if you do not have any technical or analytical experience, you can easily understand your channel’s performance in Cape Town. When you open the Analytics page, it may look something like this.
The Overview Tab
As shown in the image above, you will be automatically taken to the Overview section of the Analytics. Here, you can see three distinct statistics: Views, Watch Time in Hours, and Subscribers. These statistics reflect your channel’s performance in the last 28 days. In the image above, on the Views Graph, you can see multiple ‘Shorts’ icons on the timeline. If you hover your cursor over them, you can view which short you published on a specific date. This feature can help you loosely visualise the respective video’s performance.
On the right side, you can see your subscribers, view count, and top content in real-time. You can also hover the cursor over your videos in Top Content to see intricate analytics of these videos individually.
Now, let’s scroll down. On the left side, you will see your top 10 videos listed in descending order based on views. Again, you may click on these videos anytime to see their analytics individually in the YouTube Studio.
The Contents Tab
Now let’s take a look at the content tab. By default, your content tab will redirect you to a section that performs the best on your channel. In Chocominzu’s case, the channel performs well with shorts. So, whenever they click on the Content tab, they get redirected to the ‘Shorts’ sub-section. However, let’s take a look at these sections in order.
By default, the stats will be shown on a 28-day timeframe. You can always change the timeframe by clicking the date on the top right corner of the screen.
1. All
The All section in Content mainly focuses on three distinct statistics: New Viewers, Returning Viewers and Subscribers. Each window here will show different statistics for shorts and videos separately. You can also find these stats in the audience tab, which we will also talk about in this article.
Apart from that, you can see the total amount of views, the number of published videos, and how viewers find your video. You can also see the ‘Viewers Across Format’ statistics. However, if you are a new channel, you will need more content and an audience to generate data.
Only available on the web version, you can also see an Impression and CTR funnel for your videos only and not shorts. This funnel diagram provides visualises how is your content doing organically. The higher the CTR the better your content engagement will be.
2. Videos
This sub-section provides analytics for your video content. If your channel mainly focuses on producing video content, this tab will be rather helpful to you. On this page, you can see how your videos are doing in terms of impressions versus views. Additionally, the graph will also show you the average view duration on your channel.
As you scroll down, you can see your top-performing videos and the way your audience finds your videos.
3. Shorts
As I mentioned previously, Chocominzu focuses on producing shorts. This is the page they would see by default if they clicked on the Content tab. All the statistics regarding shorts are here. You can see that the statistics are different compared to Videos. Here, you will see the total views, impressions, likes, and subscribers gained.
Furthermore, you can see how people discover your shorts and how many choose to view your shorts. You can also see the analytics regarding your top-performing shorts in Cape Town in the real-time section, or if you scroll down.
And lastly, if anyone is using your content to create short remixes, then those stats will appear in the Top Remixed section.
4. Posts
And lastly, posts! You can see how your posts are performing in this section in the form of impressions, likes, and subscribers. As you scroll down, you will also see your top posts and their respective likes. Furthermore, you can see your posts’ performance depending on their type: Image, Poll, Quiz, Text, Video.
The Audience Tab
This tab will provide insights on returning viewers, unique viewers, and subscribers gained in a 28-day timeframe. This can help you visualise how your audience is growing and how much loyalty you are gaining in terms of viewership.
You will also see a list of shorts/videos that are contributing to your audience growth. Apart from that, the most commonly shown stats are:
- Watch time from your subscribers;
- Top geographies: where are your viewers residing?;
- Age and Gender; and
- Top subtitles/CC languages.
If you have a couple of videos on your channel with a few hundred views, these stats will be easily available for you. However, there are a few statistics in there that will not be visible until you substantially grow your audience. These stats include:
- Channels your audience watches;
- What your audience watches;
- Formats your viewers watch on YouTube; and
- When your viewers are on YouTube.
Continue growing your audience to get results on these stats in Cape Town.
The Research Tab
And lastly, the research tab. If you are running out of ideas to make videos, you can always come here for brainstorming. For example, Chocominzu’s channel is experimenting with gaming content and wishes to create more shorts on Baldur’s Gate 3. So, they searched for Baldur’s Gate 3 to see what kind of video ideas they could come up with.
This helps you understand what kind of audience may watch your videos and the topics you should focus on.
Final Words
YouTube Studio Analytics, even in a simple view mode, can generate enough insights for you to understand how well your videos may perform. For detailed analysis, you can always click on Advanced Mode in the top right corner.
