Setting up Facebook Pixel
If you are advertising your business on Facebook, having Facebook Pixel is a must. It will help you understand whether your strategy is working correctly. This is why setting up Facebook Pixel for your social media channel is important.
What is Facebook Pixel
It is Facebook’s analytical tool that allows you to measure your advertising strategy, primarily through understanding how people interact with your website. Use Pixel to make sure your ads are shown to the right people, increase your sales, and measure the results of your advertisement. Use this to your advantage and generated accurate insights for your understanding.
How to set up Facebook Pixel?
To set up your Facebook pixel on your website you are going to need a Facebook Ads Account and a website to place the pixel on. I would recommend that you install your Pixel with Google Tag Manager.
Click here to read about how to set up a Google Tag Manager account and install your Pixel.
Step 1: Setting up your Pixel
Firstly, log into your Facebook Ads account. At the top left-hand side of the page click on the burger menu (the 3 lines) from the dropdown select ‘Pixel’
If this is your first Pixel set up it will automatically bring up this block. If it is not then you will need to select ‘Add new data source’. Place in a name for your pixel and the URL of your website.
Step 2: Facebook Pixel and Google Tag Manager
You will then be asked how you would like to install your Pixel. If you have a web developer that can install this for you, you can send the code at this stage by selecting ‘Email instructions to a developer’. In this example, we are installing it ourselves so you can select ‘Manually install pixel code yourself’
Facebook will then give you the code to copy and paste. You can take this over to Google Tag Manager to install on your website (instructions here)
You can test your installation on Facebook by placing your URL into the test block and Facebook will tell you if it has been installed correctly and they are receiving information from it.
Step 3: Setting up conversion Pixel
Once you have completed the above step you will need to set up your conversion pixel to tell Facebook once someone has completed an action that is important to you. This could be the thank you page of your contact form. If you would like to read more about this click here.
You are going to want to select ‘Manually install event code’ in the next step of your pixel setup.
The next screen you will see asks you to define what that action is.
In this example, we are going to select the ‘CompleteRegistration’ code. If you have a currency and value for this conversion, you can place it at this step. (eg. if you are selling ebooks and this was the final page of the purchase and you know that the book cost R150, you could put that value in this step. This would be to track ROI on your digital campaigns. You do not need to add a figure to this step.
Congratulations! You have now installed the Pixel and you will see traffic in the overview tab once you have activity.
